Sleep Apnea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a result of the repeated collapse of soft tissue in a person’s throat. As this happens, it blocks the airway during sleep. Some people mistake OSA with snoring but it is indeed a much more serious condition. OSA differs from snoring because of the duration that oxygen is cut off from the brain and body. In essence, when a person is experiencing an Apnea event, the person is suffocating.

There are two recommended types of treatment, from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and OA (Oral Appliance). At Libbit Dental we offer the Oral Appliance solution.

After braces are removed, teeth can potentially shift back to their original position. Retainers are there to hold them in place. A retainer is typically worn overnight but in some cases they could be required for longer periods of time.

Night Guards (Grinding)

Mouth guards are more commonly known for dental protection during some kind of strenuous activity like combat sports. There are some who do not practice these sports during the day but go to war with themselves at night. Teeth grinding during sleep is extremely common. If not addressed this can cause serious oral issues. A night guard appliance, is a transparent, thin device you wear over the biting surface of your teeth, when sleeping. It prevents your top and bottom teeth from touching. If prescribed, Dr. Wolfe creates a custom-molding to your teeth, so the guard fits in your mouth without being bulky or uncomfortable.
